🔒 Privacy Policy

🧾 One-sentence summary

Nederlands! keeps your progress only on your own device (not on any server of ours); by default, without your consent, the only things that leave your browser are anonymous technical error reports when something breaks, so we can fix it, and non-personalized ads (which the law doesn't require consent to show). Usage statistics and personalized ads only turn on if you explicitly choose that in the cookie banner.

🍪 Cookies and consent

On your first visit, a banner lets you choose between three options: accept all, essential only, or customize (choose statistics and/or ads separately). Your choice is saved on your device and you can change it at any time by clicking "🍪 Cookie preferences" in the site footer. We use Google Consent Mode: no personalized-ad script or Google Analytics script is even loaded until you consent.

• 🟢 Essential (always on): course progress saved locally on your device. It's not a tracking cookie, it never leaves your browser, and so it doesn't require consent.
• 📊 Statistics (optional): Google Analytics 4 - see the section below.
• 🎯 Personalized ads (optional): if you don't turn these on, we can still show non-personalized ads (based only on the page's content, not your history) to keep the course free - European law doesn't require prior consent for that type.

📊 Google Analytics (optional feature)

If you turn on "statistics" in the cookie banner, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand which lessons are used most and where people struggle, in aggregate (we don't look at individual data). This may include: pages visited, session time, device/browser type, and approximate location (city/country, from the IP - never the exact address). You can revoke this consent at any time in the cookie preferences.

📦 What stays only on your device (localStorage)

This data is never sent to any server — it stays saved locally in your browser, just like a cookie, and you can delete it at any time by clearing the site's data in your browser's settings:

• ⚡ Experience points (XP) and study streak
• 📚 Progress in lessons and exercises
• 🃏 Flashcard state (spaced repetition)
• 🎯 List of words/phrases you got wrong (for review)

None of this identifies you personally, none of it is sent off your device, and we don't require sign-up, email or login to use the course.

🐛 Error monitoring (Sentry)

In production (not during development), we use the Sentry service to automatically capture technical errors — for example, if an app function fails in your browser. This may include: the browser type, the page URL, and the code snippet that failed. We do not capture your answers in exercises, your progress, or any content you type. This information only helps us fix bugs.

💳 Payments (optional feature, not yet active)

The app has an optional Premium tier planned, not yet activated as of this policy. Once activated: payments will be processed entirely by Stripe (we never see or store your card number); a random identifier for your device (not your name or email) is saved to remember that you purchased Premium. If this changes, we'll update this page before activating the feature.

📢 Ads

To keep the course free, we display ads through Google AdSense. By default we only show non-personalized ads (based on the page's content, not your browsing history) - Google's European consent policy doesn't require prior notice for that type. If you turn on "personalized ads" in the cookie banner, Google may use your browsing history on other sites to choose more relevant ads; we (Saspire) never have access to that individual history - we only see aggregate numbers (how many ads were shown, total revenue), never data about a specific person.

⚖️ Your rights (GDPR)

Since most of your data stays only on your device, you already have full control: just clear the site's data in your browser to delete everything. To revoke or change your cookie consent (statistics/personalized ads) at any time, use "🍪 Cookie preferences" in the footer. For questions about the technical data processed by Sentry, Google Analytics, AdSense or (in the future) Stripe, contact us via the project's GitHub.

🔄 Changes to this policy

If something relevant changes (for example, if we activate Premium or ads), we'll update this page with a new date at the top before the change takes effect.
